The Brief
The garden lacked interest and in particular there were not enough plants to give any substantial colour through the year. The clients also wanted to incorporate a summer house, swinging seat and a water feature, however including a large lawn was also important for the children.
The Solution
The garden was made more inviting by incorporating a network of paths around the garden flanked by deep beds filled with plants to give year round colour and interest. At the ends of the paths are focal points such as the swinging seat and then further round the summerhouse set into the gravel garden. The view out of the summerhouse is of the sculptural water feature surrounded by Agapanthus and Stipa tenuissima. A large lawn was maintained in the centre for games of badminton. The garden has been lit, so it is also pleasant to enjoy after dark.
