The Brief
The clients had a dull concrete terrace almost completely in the shade of their north-facing house, they wanted to extend it to create seating in the sun and also update the whole area to give a modern garden suited to their tastes and lifestyle. Lighting was a key element for the clients.
The Solution
A block and beam construction extended the terrace on a lower level while the existing terrace was raised in one section creating three levels for the different spaces. The existing walls were modified and all walls, new and old, were clad in Corten steel with ‘3D’ slate panels inserted to match the new slate paving. Rachel Carter Sculpture worked with us to create the willow ball and the hanging lights in the woodland, and we designed the Corten tube lights using a hole pattern based on star constellations. The green squares were artificial lawn as the existing concrete terrace did not allow planting.
