The Brief

This sloping garden belonged to a new-build property set in the countryside. The clients wanted a very contemporary entertainment space that worked with the double aspect of the main living area of the house.

The Solution

A clean rectilinear geometry was used to organise the design around the living area. The sloping garden allowed the use of retaining walls and long elegant steps to divide up the areas. A raised area for dining and a lower area for relaxing were created. A built in seat was included in the sofa area to allow for extra seats but doubled as structural feature all year round. The hot tub was semi recessed into the raised area allowing people to sit in the hot tub and still talk to others in the sofa area. The planting was based on soft perennials and grasses to help blend into the countryside setting.
