The Brief
This small and messy garden was not very well laid out, and the hard landscaping was dilapidated. A complete rethink was needed for the young couple who wanted a contemporary garden to suit the inside of their house.
After initial designs were drawn up, the scope was extended by removing the garage to make the garden about a third bigger.
The Solution
It made sense to use the level changes in the garden to create interest and also to avoid excessive earth removal (although quite a lot was still carted away!). The garden is divided into rooms with built in seating creating one area, a raised deck and pergola making a second area and the lower area making the largest space for the family to play in. A shed is tucked in the corner screened by bamboo and the whole look is finished with slatted western red cedar fencing. A feature laser cut screen and the brackets for the seat were powder coated the same colour to add a colour pop to the space. Finally, three mature parasol trees were planted to create privacy, giving height and green structure to the space.
